Yum, sounds good! Tomorrow we're going into Boston to find some Russian stores in hopes of finding a better variety of food (and fresher). Although I don't know how the whole import system works, I'm pretty sure that everything in our local store arrives from Russia via NY. Some of the fish and meats are definitely questionable!

The best smoked salmon (lox) is the one made in New York, not Russia. I always look at ingredients and make sure there are no chemicals. I would also buy that at supermarkets and make sure it's fresh. In New York, the best Russian stores are on Brighton Beach, obviously. Because there's so much demand, at least the food is pretty fresh.

I absolutely love lox...especially when I mix it with cream cheese, and put it on a bagel...also, on crackers with and hot mustard...yummy....I also make salmon patties.... mix salmon with bread crumbs, egg and fry it in the skillet...um...good.... Wink

Don't eat too much cream cheese. You don't want to grow big bellie - russian men like their women thin.
