Hello,

I' am an American citizen who plans to study abroad on a college program in Moscow. I was born in Russia, and immigrated to US as a refugee in 1995 at the age of 8 years. I do not own a Russian passport (was written into my mothers passport because I was a child).

My question: Will I be able to get a entry-exit student visa to Russia (after receiving an invitation) in my US Passport? Or do I have to get a Russian passport, since I'am still technically a Russian citizen?

Thank you very much for your answers/suggestions!

As I understand it, you have two options.

1. Get a Russian passport. This takes at least three months, possibly much longer.

2. Officially renounce your Russian citizenship and then get a visa. I have no idea how to get this officially recognized or how long it takes.

I guess you could also ignore your Russian citizenship and apply for a visa in your US passport and hope all goes well, but I don't recommend that.
