My first post here.
I am not inclined to make prophecies. Only trying to share my personal feeling. I am under the impression that there will be no official "successor" in 2008 elections. Instead it will be a choice between two main candidates both very loyal to the current regime. Also there can be other candidates (communist, nationalist, pro-western, rich people barely seeking publicity etc.) with no real chance to win. A second ballot is likely to take place. At first sight such tactics may sound illogical because it splits votes instead of consolidating the electorate however it seems that the present Russian administration can afford it now.
This my impression has been recently supported by my former fellow student who is now a university professor of history and a staunch pro-Putin activist. According to him Putin & Co. promote a concept of two loyal parties competing with each other, a political system where all types of extremes would fall into oblivion and no one would contest the principal values. This is what is called the "managed democracy". |

Well, it was the woman that I found interesting. You don't hear much about women bothering with those things. At least not here, anyway. |

No, not you. The woman in the article. And I didn't find her particularly interesting. It was more about the fact that she was even pursuing a political career. It doesn't seem to happen much there, does it? |

So what do Russians think now? Are they still as ignorant as Americans and other citizens? Why even vote especially for Putin? Unless, they enjoy living in another (Russian) police state.
Maybe they want to emulate the Bu$h Police State? |

I think you won't find too many people as ignorant as you are. If you are comparing the US and it's "police state" with Russia, you must be brain-dead. |

Mogsfan is probably doing the chatting between airports. He's the type that travels the world to save it. A flower child. Or a baby boomer. |

Sounds like the Democrats and Republicans in the U.S. The moderates get elected and the extreme left and right are looking in the White House windows, wanting to change the drapes. |
