Ive never had a desire to be any sort of manager. I mean if I owned a business that would be one thing, but I would not want to be a manager because I do not want the responsibility of having to cover everyone elses ass, if the shit hits the fan. I lack the patience, and I get stressed out easily. I know when to keep my mouth shut so that is not an issue with me, but I wont tolerate disrespect of any kind though, so if someone wants to cross the line, I wont hesitate to unleash the beast so to speak. |
As I said before, if you have so much trouble with patience, you should work on yourself. It's nothing to be proud of. Your understanding of management responsibility is very naive: you have to organize, define strategy and manage 98% of the time, not cover anyone's ass. Also, many people (like me) are hands-on managers. For example, I design software, discuss business requirements with users and also manage a team of software developers where my work is not to cover their asses, but to guide them towards solutions, make important decisions, prioritize work and communicate with senior business people. You have to read more and expand horizons. Your logic sounds like that of a 14-year old |
Sounds like a few of my old reponsibilities that I had to do, except it wasn't a software company. I think these are great ways to improve one self, not only at a job, but it keeps you organized outside of work, if you maintain this type of self-discipline. |

Well Spice works in the corporate world...and this is how it is. A bail bonds operation is much more casual I am sure. But where we work is a choice...some people are casual and others are more professional or should I say corporate. Personally the corporate thing isn't my gig either. Regardless of where we work...one is not better than the other...to think so is very shallow |

What you are describing is not what I would consider a difficult situation. This issue has nothing to do with logic, and everything to do with experience. I did not imagine these scenarios in my head, ive seen them take place. Perhaps you have the advantage of working with individuals who are self disciplined and dont really need anyone else to hover over them in order to get stuff done. The person who "manages" the agency where I work, has no real power, it seems everyone goes right over her head and talks directly to the owners, nobody listens to her. She is stuck between a rock and a hard place, because the people who go over her head are chummy with the owners. However its still her obligation to take care of everything, even when it seems shes not able to even do her job. |

MrSpice works in a non traditional office setting. My boyfriend does not deal with this sort of drama either, because his company is not focused on high pressure. We do not have HR, so if you have a beef, you either speak to the manager (who has no power it seems), or go directly to the owners, which is going right over the managers head. This is not something that is unique to the agency I work for (I know a few others who work for different companies and report the same type of ridiculousness). I find its better to just stay the hell out of the office as much as possible and do most of my stuff from home. But no way in hell would I consider managing such a circus. Its not the work thats hard, its the people who are assholes for no reason. |

| Talk about drama at the work place. The management at my job should go take another training course to be better managers because they are the worse. There are several members of management and only a few are approachable or responsive when you call for them, very inconsistant. One of the managers who works in security thinks all of us are theives. She goes around and watches you and makes you nervous. She reminds me of Gladys on the long running series "Bewitched", she is nosey and she hides to watch people. She is a nut case. I just laugh when I see her. I have been a manager most my life of working and there are so many unprofessional people who hold high positions. I can point out all the mistakes they make. We have a high turnover rate. I was offered a management position, I quickly refused it because I was told that I could not go to college while in management. This is a place who talks and supports education and gives grants to employees who wants to improve their education, but management cannot go to college. I see several managers who cheat on their spouses too. Employees who get involved with each other then when they get pissed off they show it at work and eveeeeeerybody knows their business. I cannot wait to get out of this place after graduation. |

Exactly! I am not exaggerating on this one, it seems the majority of women working at my office, have performed some sort of sexual act on the owner, or one of the owners sons or both. Its like these guys have a giant harem. Needless to say these ladies end up jealous of one another, and show up with bitchy attitudes, or worse they all start their disgusting pathetic flirting. I have a good relationship with the owners wife, and it seems to me that this woman has to know about these affairs her husband entertains, yet turns the other way. Even the manager has slept with the owner, if the rumors told by others can be believed. The only plus about this job, is that they pay real well, and are extremely lenient if you want to take time off. Also I can do side work for other agencies as well. But yeah avoiding the office scene is a plus for me. |

Welll women love men in positions of power and wealth...as I said give head to get ahead...so true. My last job I saw this all the time...in fact I just read an article on how people really have two relationships...they have that with thier spouse in the evening...and the one with the at work boyfriend/girlfriend. Funny I just got a text from my friends wife...he's out of town and she wants to go out...but very good friend so no lines would ever get crossed...and I have other interest. I don't work with any women but when I did...the work place was one big soap opera! |

| Fire_G. Your view of the office life is so negative because you have worked for small and crappy companies. If you worked for a large and prestigious firms, they try to hire good people and usually have very decent and reasonable office policies. I don't think you would have such negative experiences if you worked for Microsoft, General Electric, Citigroup, etc. Especially when you have good skills that are valuable, companies do all they can to keep you and make you happy. |
