Um? "The Saint" with Val Kilmer, Elizabeth Shue. Oh, and the long haired Russian hunk Valerie Nikolaev...I wouldn't mind a date with him...  |

that's not a Russian Movie...and it certainly doesn't portray russia of today
I've only seen Night Watch and The Italian and the Three Musketeers. But I think the Italian portrays Russia accurately from what I know. Also I saw a documentary on a insane assylum over there and it was pretty good...I will try and find the title |

err.. latest russian films I've seen are probably Перегон Александра Рогожкина и Мне не больно. I really like Renata Litvinova, she reminds me from the movie stars of 1930's and 1940's like Marlene Dietrich or something.... Nowadays class...  Films of Alexander Rogozhkin are great too, his humour is just what you need! If I could just one dat doing nothing else but watching good Russian films... That would be something! |

Most of The Saint was made in Russia with Russian actors plus there were 2 different endings to the movie and you can only get the original ending in Russia. I would like to see the original ending but, I don't know how to locate it to purchase it. Any suggestions on how to find Russian movies that are 10 years old. |

I too saw Peregon and Mne ne bol'no last year and enjoyed both.
Peregon is set largely in WW2 so you can't say it reflects modern Russian life but it was probably a fairly accurate reflection of life at that time.
I also like the classic films such as Moskva slezam ne verit, S legxim parom and Vostok zapad. My friends over there send me disks quite often so I have a fair collection. The great thing is that they use double sided DVD's and that way you get about 10 movies on one disk. |

"The Inner Circle", in English but directed by a Russian.
"Vor" (The Thief).
"Gorky Park" is pretty good, but very low-key. I liked the book too.
They are good portrayals of Soviet Russia.
The Saint was nice but there's nothing very "Russian" about it... class it in the same as Bourne Supremacy... |

Mne ne bol'no is made a year ago, it reflects life of young people living in Saint Petersbourg. It is drama, a love story... anyway, Renata Litvinova is the Star! |

I envy you.... Allthough I should be probably using our public libraries more, they should have some Russian films. Moskva slezam ne verit', I remember seeing it 4 years ago, but unfortunately I remember nothing else that I was captured by a movie and that it touched me, but then, that's about all I remember....
Yes Rogozhkin has been recently making more movies on WW2, such as Kukushka and Peregon. They are good, I think, might not represent today's Russia, but still I tend to like his sense of humour... |

Geez, I guess I didn't realize it but that's a lot of war movies!
Here's a good one that's not a war movie:
"Medved Potcelui"
But that one's kind of science fiction. |
