A large one, but nothing like Toronto though. Most Russian-speakers in Canada are in TO. In US that would be Brooklyn, NY, Brighton beach (350, 000 people from Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Central Asia etc., all Russian-speaking).

In Van there a quite a few Russians. In the interior, where I am, and in Alberta it is mostly Ukranians. The Russians seem to migrate to the larger cities here.

As far as I understand, Toronto (GTA) has a bigest Russian- speaking community outside of Russia.

That sounds correct to me. Maybe New York has more. Spicey, care to verify this?

I have been to Toronto several times. I hardly heard any Russian on the streets there. I know it has a sizeable Russian-speaking community. But I think it's smaller than was just stated. Montreal also has quite a few Russians.

There's no question that there are more Russian speakers in New York City. In addition to hundreds of thousands legal immigrants that have been coming here from 1979, when the USSR first allowed Russian-Jewish immigrants to leave the country, you have a lot of illegal immigrants here. Many came here on student or tourist visas and stayed. Brooklyn in places looks is so Russian that all you hear is Russian on the streets. And in Manhattan, you can hear Russian spoken every day virtually anywhere you go.

Maybe I will go back to NY after graduation.

If you want to go there to visit, that's one thing. If you want to cometo NY to live, I would suggest getting some solid working experience working as a netwrok engineer in Kentucky or Ohio or other midwestern state. Living in and around NYC (and other bigs cities) is expensive. I am not sure what kind of job you can get if you come here without any professional experience. Computer jobs that pay best in NYC and New Jersey are those at the large financial firms. They demand good experience. If you work as a teacher and make 40K, you will need to find a rich boyfriend to have a normal life here or in any other major metro area.

Spicey, I have a degree in business management with experience, computer experience and I am about to graduate with a Masters in Computer Engineering and 8 certifications in Networking. I may work as a teacher.I can always rely on my business degree to make it in NY, if nothing else works.

Remember, I lived in NY for 10 years and I was a personal manager for a famous designer, Spicey. Wink

I am very good at what I do, but I may go to San Diego or who knows, I maybe in Russia at the end of August or September.

yes I have friends in SF who clear 6 figures and still have a rough go and here in sd the poverty level for a family of 4 is $70K. a decent condo in a good area is going to cost a half million easily. So that would demand a $3k mortgage a month. New York City from my understanding is rediculous expensive.

Perhaps Kentucky would be your glass of wine....

I do admit NY is expensive, but I done it. It is nothing I cannot handle..

New York is an overrated rat hole that most smart people move away from instead of into. Rolling Eyes
