What approximate proportions are we talking about when when we we hear that the numbers of young, marriageable Russian women outnumber vastly the number of young marriageable Russian men?

I do not know what the exact ratio that would be. |

It's very noticable...Ukraine, Belarus, all those USSR countries...males have a high mortality rate over there. Putin has been addressing these demographic problems...and it is a problem. But as a male seeking companionship...go there and perhaps you can meet a nice woman...the odds are in your favor |

Interesting, I knew there was a "difference", but I thought it was only really drastic in middle-age (ie. by then more guys dying early from all sorts reasons).
Then, there is the unfortunate stereotype that a great many young Russian guys, of marriageable age, are drunkards or general losers (unfortunately because of the hard economic times), so I suppose this takes them off the marriage market too......... |

An interesting notion. No doubt tried by many foreign guys.  I wonder then what percentage of Russian's actually speak English? I guess a common language isn't everything, but it helps 
One of my Russian friends is the rarer exception in her city. No one else she knows well speaks/understands English. |

A relatively small percentage of the population. Much more among young professionals in St Petersburg and Moscow. |

In my ex-home town quite a few people speak English, simply because it has several universities. Even Lenin attended one of them (try to guess which one it is and where I used to live). |

Kazan? I vaguely recall he went to uni somewhere else as well but can't remember where... |

Yeah, the muslim influence there becomes stronger with each new day. I am Russsian myself, so it is kinda sad to see. Tatars and Russians used to live in harmony, now the Tatars claim that the Russians oppressed them from being true Tatars. I am not sure if it is true.... although, who didn't the Russians oppress through the history? |
