Hi!
I am looking at buying train tickets for Moscow - Irkutsk and onward into Mongolia. Most of the companies I have contacted said I can pick up tickets at their offices in Moscow and St Petersburg. One company in Sweden, IventusTravel (who offer quite cheap tickets) wrote that they will book the tickets but I have to pick them up personally from the train station since they have no office in either Moscow or St Petersburg. Just wondering if nayone has any experience doing the same.
Cheers! |

| If I recall right...I think I did read a prior post where the traveler had infact done that. Do some more research on this site and I think you will get your answer...hopefully sooner than it will take for someone to tell you here |

| I have looked around on the forum but I was not able to find the answer. I found the rather amusing thread on ticket collection which turned into a discussion on russian service in general but I didn't get the answer to whether travel agent pre booked tickets could be collected at the train station (which this travel agent is claiming). |

It sounds unlikely to me, unless they either (a) will have someone to meet you at the train station, or (b) have an agreement with one of the little agencies that operate at the train stations. There's no way a regular cashier there would hold them for you.
Ask the company for more details about where exactly you should collect them at the train station. |

Hi
Russia is a queer place in many ways...))) Don't know about Moscow but you can ask Helen in Irkutsk to buy tickets for you for Irkutsk-Ulan-Baatar. She has been of great help to my friends. Write her at baikalsurf@irk.ru |

Hi THD,
About quite cheap tickets... I'd rather to pay for tickets a bit more, but get them hand-by-hand from courier at home and at time. Who knows what can happend in your way from airport to train station? What if you will late and then will run with round eyes on train station looking for your tickets and your train
We can book it for you and send to you. |

| I know what those guys are talking about in Sweden... that's the e-tickets recently introduced in Russia. They can be picked up in Moscow or St Petersburg at certain train stations, but this service is VERY new and I would say it's a bit risky... and then you can buy tickets for Moscow-Irkutsk only, the Irkutsk-Mongolia is most likely a passing train, and then you would have to hunt for it. We had our tickets delivered to us in Irkutsk when we headed for UB, and then got our Mongolia-China tickets in UB. Booked through www.transib.net, they had a nice deal at that time. |

Hi!
I am back from the trip now. I ended up doing it with real russia and paying extra. Found out later from a few swedes I met on the way was that gregg222 was right, it is one of the small travel agents close by the train station and not the actual train station.
Having said that, I was looking at the RZD website and went through the whole online booking process (without booking the ticket, obviously). Has anyone collected tickets booked online?
Just thinking about the next trip...
