| Congratulations on developing and maintaining the best, most practical and useful website that I have ever seen. I am a bearer of Russian International Passport. I was issued this passport outside Russia, outside CIS (former USSR) on the basis that my grandfather is a Russian Citizen and resides in Primorskii Krai, which is a closed region for foreigners. I would like to know what is the procedure for me to get Russian Internal Passport and how can my husband who is a foreigner get Russian Citizenship? Is it possible to apply for my Internal Passport and his Citizenship from here through the Russian Embassy? At present I reside outside the CIS/Russia with my husband. |

Both for you and your husband to get a Russian passport -- you'll need to go to Russia to do it. You might be able to go to Russia with your Russian foreign passport (although ask the consulate first!), and your husband will need a visa.
To start the process, you will need to come to Russia first, arrange an internal passport (this may take a few years even), and only afte ryou're officially settleed there, you will need to make a personal invitation for your husband, he will come to Russia, and then apply for a stay permit. The process of getting a Russian passport for him may take about 3 years. More information at http://waytorussia.net/RussianVisa/ and http://waytorussia.net/business/
As you see, it's all very complicated, so if you just want to travel to Russia sometimes, I advise you to get tourist visas -- this is the least hassle. If you want to stay for a long time in Russia, you can get a business visa.

| Hi! thankyou for the reply. I would like to ask that the process of getting my Internal passport as you said may take a few years, where will I have to go first for the process to start? Can i go to any city or only Moscow or only to the city where my grandfather lives? Is the prapiska necessary for the Internal passport? Somebody told me that i wont be able to get the internal passport without a prapiska and i wont be able to get the prapiska without an internal passport. If this is true? I called the consulate here but they say they dont know thease things. Also, if i have already been given Russian citizenship, why will it take several years for the Internal passport? Thanks. |
