I drink beer on occasion, but I have never had a Russian beer. Is there a Russian beer that comes close to the taste of "Killians Irish Red"? This is my favorite beer. |

| I can say, as I've tried a lot of Russian beers, one of the bests is Baltika or Botshkarev oe Obolon. The others I have tried are not good. It is my opinion of beers from the European side of Russia |

| Baltika...that's the one I had...it was just ok. Really I have had so many good micro beers from here in the US and Canada that...nothing comes close...even our mass produced Sam Adams is better than the russian beers. But Too the Germans make some good beer and Guiness is one of my all time favs...but I like it better warm |

I understand why you might be drawn to a beer called "Irish Red". You do realize that you will never find this in Ireland? (it is an American "rip off" beer... not Irish ... not a real red beer... typical American crap).
I have had both Baltika 4 and 7. Both are excellent. Baltika 4 is readily available in the UK (and, I believe, in the US).
I agree with surfguy, that the best thing that has happened for US beers has been the growth of micro-breweries in the last 15-20 years. Many of these beers are very, very good. |

| Nevskoe originalnoe or classicheskaya are good, so is Starye Melnik. Baltika 7 or 9 when nothing else is cold. |

How can anybody drink a warm beer? My beer has to be almost icy before I can drink it. |

Quite often the kiosks don't have refrigeration, or it's not working properly.
Russians don't bat an eyelid at warm beer. I had to get used to it. |

So, I guess the best time to drink beer in Russia is in the winter...I could go for a beer right now. |
