Yeah, quite an old article, and probably too harsh (even for 1998)? But, others know more about Russia than me. So, maybe they can shed light on this issue?
But, surely society "everywhere" is getting more promiscuous, each year? Promiscuity is increasingly "less" deemed a moral issue anymore, especially before marriage. So, how does a society become less promiscuous over time? Apart from experiencing a theocratic coup?
Even this google-hit dating agency discusses this promiscuity issue below: (Goodness knows why they wish to discourage Western male idiots from their website!)

Surfguy, that US poverty issue is interesting. Be good to compare what it "actually means" to be poverty-stricken in the US relative to being in the same situation in Russia. Be good to start a new thread on this. |

| poverty here is a whole lot better than poverty any where else...that's for sure and it's why so many people want to come here. As far as Russian women being promiscuous...perhaps so and the above mentioned article...not sure I was trust any of what it says. If a woman is going to be promiscuous well then that is not good for a man who wants to be monogamous...and of course visa versa. Doesn't matter where they are from. And for people to travel to foriegn places for romance...so many problems can and often do arise. It's even harder to carry on a long distance relationship. |

Surely Russian men are stereotyped as more promiscuous than Russian women? In fact, everywhere, men generally are.
Although, less single men in Russia might have something to do with Russian single women "throwing themselves" at their men more (compared to the situation in the West). Could be wrong of course.
Rephrasing it:
Russian men accept they have wealth of choice and perhaps the women are socialised (moreso then Western women) into competing more blatently for male attention. Sex being an obvious tool for this. All this being considered normal behaviour.
Is this innacurate?

From what I have observed and experienced on my trips to Russia it can be said that on the whole women are indeed more promiscuous than men there.
With teenagers promiscuity is fairly equal, as people age the women tend to become the hunters and change partners regularly.
It has also become fashionable among the over 30's women to take a younger partner.
All this of course does not apply to each and every person, but to a visitor there, this behaviour is quite apparent. |

According to this forum, it is because the men let themselves go and don't take care of themselves, drink to much and beat their women. Um, sounds like some of men here in the south of America... |

Just because they are approachable?
They are inclusive, modest, and easy to meet, date, and bring into your social circle than women in America. In fact, it’s well known that the US women are among the most unapproachable women in the world. |

I would be sociable, approachable and easy too, if I was on the hunt for an American man to take me to America to live a better life. 
I disagree with you on this, you don't have any back up for your theory. It is not known that we are unapproachable because we are the opposite. American women are very friendly and we know how to please the men and we know how to throw a nice party with great friends. |

Don't know about that...perhaps they are just not that into foriegn men...but then again who knows...I find then to be very approachable...in fact I had an ex girlfriend who is American and low and behold her name is Daria |

Can somebody please convince me that this is not another Ekaterina?
Daria, you are so wrong. I just came back from Russia. I have never seen in my past several years of living in the US so many slutty women as I saw in Russia in two weeks.
Can you sometimes think before you say anything? Please?
PS These topics were beaten to death in the past and the majority here has agreed that a lot of russian women look and act like sluts. Just ask Mediashark, she said it a few times in the past. |

| I saw a lot of slutty women over there too...infact on several occassions women there tried to solicit sex to me. But that said slutty women are everywhere and women are sitting on a million bucks. Well...ok some are sitting on maybe just $5.00 but still...Anyways I'd have to say American women have far more opportunities here in the US than Russian women do in Russia. And there are sluts everywhere |
