|
|
Hello!
My passport has been stolen. I'm outside Russia now. I had a Russiam business visa 1 year on that passport. I will apply for a duplicate of my passport, same expiry date and same number.
The question: is it possible to apply for a duplicate Russian visa too? I mean to go to the Russian consulate and ask to issue the visa again. Not a new visa but simply printing again the stick to put in the passport.
In few words, is it possible to get a duplicate of the Russian visa (same number, same expiry date, same validity etc.) on the duplicate of a lost/stolen passport?
Thanks in advance for the answer to this question that I found answered nowhere. |

As stated in

If your passport is lost or stolen, you must apply for a replacement passport at a U.S. embassy or consulate. If possible, bring with you:
* identification, especially photo ID
* proof of U.S. citizenship (a birth certificate, naturalization certificate, Report of Birth Abroad or a copy of your passport)
* two 2" by 2" passport size photos, in color or black and white, and
* the police report that you filed when you notified the local authorities that your passport was lost or stolen.
In most cases, a new passport can be issued quickly. If U.S. passport records must be checked, the process may delay the issuance of a new passport.
In Russia you must also obtain a new or duplicate visa from OVIR (Office of Visas and Registration) if your visa is lost or stolen. (This office is also known as the "Passport-Visa Service" in some areas.) The passport number on your visa must match that of any new passport. Obtaining a replacement visa takes approximately 10 working days. A police certificate verifying the theft of your visa and passport may be necessary to obtain a new visa.

The fact is that you have to be in Russian territory to manage this. So, you'll have to apply for a short visa, go t Russia, get your duplicate visa, and that's all.
I'm sure it would help you at OVIR if you kept a photocopy of your visa.
Good Luck |

| Anyway, ask in your consulate if they can do it. |

| I think getting duplicate of visa shouldn't be that hard. For instance, if every page of your passport is full of visa's and stamps, your visa could be moved to your new passport. So, I think there's a chance for you to have your Russian visa moved to your new passport. You should ask from a Russian consulate or embassy how to proceed, which documents you need to get your visa moved to your new passport. Have you reported to police about your stolen passport? I suppose the Russian consulate/embassy might want to see some official document from police to state what has happened to your passport. |

| Good luck on getting the same passport ID number on a replacement passport. I know for a fact that the US doesn't work that way. Maybe other countries do, though...? |
