Hey all.

I'm going to Moscow for 3 days, then Kazan for 7. I will be stay at a hotel/hostel while in Moscow. During my stay in Kazan, I will be staying at someones house. It is too much trouble for them to get me an invitation letter. Is there any way for me to be allowed to goto Kazan with having to get invite papers? Any feedback will be help-full. It's my first time to russia and i'm excited.

Get a tourist visa then get the person or persons you're staying with to register you at the post office in the city you're going to visit...piece of cake.
My wife and I do this when we go visit her family and friends.

So first apply for the visa, then get them to get me the invitation. I thought they had to get me that first, then i apply for my visa.

How long do you think it will take for me to get the invitation once they go?

You do not need a homestay visa.
You get a tourst visa .....once you get to Russia you have 3 business days to register it.
When you get to the city your visiting just have you host go to the post office with you and register it for you. They will need your passport and the cost is very little.
It takes less than 30 minutes for us to get our tourist visa's registered at the post office and is MUCH more easier than a homestay.
We do not use the homestay anymore because the tourist visa is easier, faster, and gives us 10 extra days just incase something happens and we can't exit Russia on our given dates.
I get our tourist visas through gotorussia.com becaue they're only about oa 1.5 hour drive from our home.
We can only apply for a tourist visa I think within 30 days of our travel date and it's usally a fast turn around on our passports being returned to us.

You didn't answer the question that was asked. The person wants to know how to get the invitation letter, NOT what to do to register when they get there.
