Hi, hope someone can help.

My understanding was that you cannot get a ticket for an internal Russian journey on international trains (Nos 04, 06, 20) - I think I got that info from seat61.com.

However, the RZD website is selling tickets for internal segments on the Moscow-Ulanbaator train no.06 (the ones I checked were Novosibirsk-Krasnoiarsk and Krasnoiarsk-Irkutsk). Is it really possible? Have they (I mean, the Russian railways) changed the rules recently??

Thanks.

The thing is that officially it may be possible but in real life these trains are always full and there's simply no availability for internal routes. Obviously, they want to sell more expensive long haul tickets. So, I'd go for the standard Russian trains and they will be cheaper, too.

Hmm...but all this can be checked online with the RZD website. It lists the number of beds available in each carriage after you enter the passenger details. It takes a while of fiddling, since some apparently available beds don't seem to be bookable but in the end I managed with a dummy booking. As I wrote in the other thread though, I have never actually collected tickets purchased online, so I cannot actually confirm that it works but it appears to at least.
