Hi, I have booked an overnight train from St Petersburg travelling to Vilnius overnight. I have subsequently been told by a concerned friend of a friend that this is not a safe travel option for a female travelling alone. Is she being overcautious, or would it be wise for me to look for other travel options? Any info appreciated

She is being overcatious. Russian trains are perhaps the safest on earth: every carriage has an attendant (provodnik), all passengers get their passports checked when they board (!) the train, there's a police squad traveling with the train. It's very safe.

Im a 16 year old female and in about a week i'll be travelling by myself . Thanks for re-assuring me on the safty aspect and it might finaly calm my mother down!
