| well then what does that tell the site then...WTR should be glad that people are posting here. notice the forum is very active and a lot of answers to the users questions are being provided...and look who are answering them...gee it's the regular users...Perhaps the non relevant thread should be opened back up...does anyone have anysuggestions as to what other forums are out there? I will make a new thread asking that...sorry really should stay on topic I guess |

surfguy - I wonder who kept you here for such a long time. I have to honest, that's kind of interesting and puzzling. Even when no one posts anything, you post everywhere. It almost feels like you're addicted to this forum. Not that there's anything wrong with that... |

I don't think it solved anything. I think Firey should be back on this forum. She didn't beat around the bush here and sugar coat her opinions. |

So are you helping us to stay on topic? I assumed that the whole point of the forum is free exchange of information where people talk about things the way they feel. Or, have you gotten used to Russia now where everything is controlled from the top? If you control everything people say making sure no one "strays from the topic", you won't have too many people left on this forum. |
true spice...and I know all of us can agree with this...mediashark...now now lets not be a kook in the negative context of the word. Remember most of us reside in the free world and are allowed to skate freely |

1. This forum belongs to Dmitry and it is important to his business. When you signed up, there was a terms of agreement you had to agree to. Go read the stickys.
2. This is a free world, but this is not a free forum. When you assume this forum is free-you make a ass of u and me. Why? See above. Easy for you to say so otherwise because your business doesn't depend on what is posted on WTR.
3. As a moderator I am not free to do whatever I want to. Dmitry is chosing to tighten the lid, and I have to follow through whether I like it or not.
4. The mods have been very lenient with you guys. But now I have noticed that all the rules put down on the stickies have been disregarded more and more. You guys have been around for awhile, you ought to know what is welcome and what isn't. Remember Winston Wu?
5. The issue with Fire_G and/or admin's actions should be conveyed via PM, not on the forum.
6. If you don't like any of the above, I can't do anything about it, because of 1. I'm not the one who sets rules here.
7. There is a decision somewhere up there that might threaten the very existence of a chat forum like Talk Lounge. So I am saying, if you guys can't pull your act together and stop posting utter rubbish as 80% of the stuff in TL, calling names, exchanging insults and are and never staying on topic after page 3, good luck. If Dmitry wants to keep TL tightly moderated, I'm out of here. Too much work.
Now please don't be immature little kooks.

We didn't want to ban anybody, but trying to reason with people and asking people to respect the guidelines wasn't working. Maybe Fire Goddess wasn't the worst offender, but a symbolic gesture was needed. And since she had no discernible interest in Russia it was the easiest choice to make.
When a user who frequently travels to Russia and orders travel services through this site told me he prefers to spend his time on the Thorntree forums because of domination of a few members here, it was clear that something had to be done. To me, that was the ultimate insult - that someone would prefer a Lonely Planet service to this website.
As long as Talk Lounge remains you can talk about any topic there. The problem was with the constant hijacking of Russia-related threads. So, in future, if some unrelated idea pops into your head when reading a thread, start a new topic about it in Talk Lounge. |

Personally, I have no objecting to you banning Fire_G, or anyone else here. Just don't say you don't have any choice because you have not been on this forum in a while, so I am not sure why you are putting breaks here, closing treads and telling me to behave. To me, it is a very good indication that when someone gets any little bit of power, they like to use it and let everyone know that they have that power. That is not nice and is uncalled for.
1. This site, as surfguy pointed out has hardly been visited by anyone but a few regulars in the past 2-3 months. It's mostly me and surfguy who answer people's questions. greg contributes a little bit. There are a couple of other folks like nikir who help out. But you can count the people who mostly post here on 2 hands (and often on one).
2. Starting to do what you started doing today - scolding people who straying off topic - is unnecessary.
3. If all we have to do is follow your rules - why come here at all? What fun is it to just respond to rigid questions and see you close topics as you see fit?
One last thing - greg mentioned that a symbolic gesture was needed. A symbol to whom? To me and surfguy? We are pretty much the only ones providing any advice on this site. Look at the threads and who answers most of the questions. Personally, I am done with answering any questions here. |

Ever heard of the term 'agreement' and 'responsibility'?
You obviously don't and understand neither.
You join the forum in agreement to the terms and conditions, it is your responsibility to abide by the rules.
I agree to help moderate the site and it is my responsibility to react to the recent request by the admin to delete all off-topic posts.
Power play has nothing to do with it. The entire thing was put into action due to feedback from a forum user.
And what does my personal life have to do with this? Nothing except that I cannot be on her 24/7 to delete all off topic posts, these days even less so. Dealing with spam is enough. |

So as far as I understand, Mods want it to be nise and neat; but they don't want to invest their time into WTR in order to keep it nice and neat.
Then maybe some moderators have to be striped off their duties? |

| Daria, the moderators work for free so we are grateful for any work they do. We can't expect them to spend their time cleaning up other people's mess. It doesn't make sense for us to start paying moderators. That money could be better spent on new city guides or improving the guides we have. |

| yes true...and we tend to forget that this is a money making venture. Self policing then is what is needed. Well soon enough this will all settle...I'd say after tomorrow it should be a lot calmer and smooth operating |
