Russian men are hot!

Russian men are hot until they discover the bottle of booze and start looking like "Andy Capps". I just read an article on Russian men, they are now starting to drink aftershave or anything that has alcohol in it. I think the percentage rate of Russian men drinking is 63%, give or take a few. Now I can see why the birthrate is what it is today besides abortion in Russia.

I do believe in standing by my man, but alcohol in a marriage is almost impossible to deal with no matter what. I would not want my life ended by the hand of drunkard or by my worries that puts me 6 ft under. Standing by your man did not include alcoholism. Their are other good reasons and respected ones to "stand by your man" with, but booze is not tolerated.

Remember "Tammy Wynette" she wrote "Stand by your man"? She eventually left her famous drunkard husband, "George Jones".

You have to be careful with those numbers, because I don't think you're saying that 63% of men have a real problem with drinking. Having a shot of vodka with dinner once a week and drinking day and night are different things, obviously. I don't think you should stand by your man in any kind of abusive situation, whether it's drinking, drugs, etc. if he is not getting help and is not interested in normalizing his life.

You went from idolizing Russia and Russian men to quoting rather meaningless statistic numbers.

I do like Russian men, but most of the things about Russian men that I am reading lately in this forum makes Russian men look like they are beastly. What is up with that!? Why are there so many negative articles or comments about Russian men? Where is the positive views on these guys? C'mon, I know not all women have bad hubbies. I am not saying having a drink is bad, I am talking about abuse of alcohol. You are right, I would not put up with that in my life especially if he is not interested in help, but if he was then yes I would stand by him and help him, but I would leave if he did not try to salvage himself.

I read about that percentage rate in an article. I don't know where those resources came from for that info, but I cannot see that being accurate myself.

You are right, these stories of the aftershave type moonshine or surrogate alcohols are popping up on google and there are a lot of different articles to read regarding this issue, in case one is in denial.

Most educated people in Russia are not beastly, especially those living in major cities. I have had quite a few friends and fellow students in St Petersburg, and there were hardly drunks. On a major holiday, like the New Year's - which is huge in Russia - you'd see lots of drunk people on the street. But that's a special event. Also, the level of alcohol consumption is very high in Russia - that is certainly true. However, most "normal" people know when to stop drinking. That is true in any country.

It depends on the area too. If you go to some remote area of Moscow where mostly working class people live, you will see a lot of vodka on sale and a lot of drunk people on the street. If you go to a local university, you won't see any of that.

My boyfriend doesn't drink or smoke, detests them both.
He saw while growing up what alcohol did to those who overindulged and it turned him against drinking. I was surprised when I learned he didn't drink at all. I've never dated a man who didn't drink at least a little. New experience! Drinks apple juice like crazy though! Laughing

Very Happy

I have alcoholism on both sides of my family, plus diabetes.
My Mom and Dad drank occasionally but not like their parents did!

My brother is a borderline alcoholic but my Dad is trying to keep him on the dryer side of the fence! Shocked
