No, she doesn't know how to knit. Wishes she did. No need to knit though. You can buy pretty much anything you need or want in the supermarkets and malls of North America! |

Former President Gorbachev To Head New Political Group
Combined Reports
MOSCOW — Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev has been elected head of a new political movement founded, he said, to fight corruption and help bring democratic principles to Russia.
The movement, called the Union of Social Democrats, is the second political grouping that Gorbachev has headed in the past three years.
Gorbachev told about 200 delegates attending the founding meeting Saturday that the new movement would seek to rid the country of “extreme political forces” and help promote liberal values.
The movement will also support President Vladimir Putin’s reforms but does not intend to participate in State Duma elections in December. “We are fighting for power, but only for power over people’s minds,” Gorbachev told the delegates, the BBC reported.
In 2001, Gorbachev helped found the Social Democratic Party of Russia, but resigned three years later in a disagreement with the leadership about working more closely with United Russia. The Social Democratic Party was later one of several ordered closed by the Supreme Court under new registration rules.

Ну то есть я правильно понимаю, что во времена гонок на лафетах и ранее, при развитом сосасизьме Ильича Второго самостоятельную хозяйственно-экономическую деятельность вы не вели* и сравнивать вобщем не с чем?

| Mikhail Gorbachev ended the Cold War and brought freedom to Eastern Europe. He not Ronald Reagan changed the world. I don't know why some Russians dislike him. When that coup happened in 91 I thought he would end up like Nikita Khrushev in 1964. Anyway, he brought the Soviet Empire down and it was those former leaders of that government that is spinning the truth like the right-wingers in the US on Gorbachhev's role in history. He would not be forgotten. |

You are right, there. All crimes are punished... eventually... by one means or another... |

| Gorbachev will easily be forgotten if Russia is to return to the days of the USSR or the ways of Putin |

Very many detest him because he lost control. He managed to ruin ALL that was built during the 70+ years of socialism, INCLUDING all that was beneficial for the people. He allowed the various groups of bandits crawl out to start stealing - here we can find where the oligarks (Berezovski, Gussinsky, Chodorkowskij, Abramovitch, Friedman, Mordashow and others begin stealing common property now).
The so called "private business" were merely jokes, where profitable corporations was hindered by totally insane regulations.
The Gorby-period meant lack of products of all kind and corruption bloomed in the worst possible way.
He invented new words that meant nothing for the people who over and over again were fooled by the new "democratic" leaders and got their properties stolen.
The simple Mrs Gorbatcheva came back from atrip to UK with fashionable handmade shoes with diomonds all over the heels ....
In the Gorby vs Eltsin-debate, more people tend to admit they like Gorby better than the drunkard that followed, but it was very much a matter of plague or cholera. |

The only thing he can't be accused in is steep oil price declide in the beginning of 80s, resulting in export revenue collapse. And lack of domestic production is easily explained - military production consumed all
resources, giving nothing as a result. Where are the pensions of 90s retirees? All are in various forms of steel junk - tanks, submarines, buran shuttle, etc.
And if one single person even as the leader of the country can ruin it entirely - it is something wrong with the country or its ruling system.
But now his opponents must be happy - oil is almost at 1981 level, one and ruling party, national leader - all like in good ol ussr, but with ford focus and import food instead of tanks and submarines. |

Well put Vox...too though...now it is mainly the crew from St Pete who are enjoying the spoils...all that happened is that one group took assetts from the other...but I do think that Putin is doing good on behalf of Russia. But this said if oil prices drop...which they will...say Poka to the russian economy |
