I don't if that's true or not, but it seems like Spaniards are the only ones who speak "pure" Spanish. |
had this conversation with many of my Spanish friends and they all say the same thing. The argentinians speak a more castillion form of spanish |
True Surf, the Argentinians have many pronunciations like the Spaniards..such as, the "ce" is pronounce like "the" with a lisp..Instead of Barcelona it's Bar-thelona.. |

The purest spanish is spoken in Castilla (Madrid area).
The worst spanish is spoken in the south of Spain, they cut the words, for example the word "nada" will be pronounced "naa", "dedo" (finger) will be pronounced "deo"
All the past form of verbs are also cut, for example hablado (spoken) will be pronounced "hablao".
I bet that most of hispanics in the world speak better spanish than people from the south of Spain do. |

So Mister Wizz, my husband and I are seriously considering going to a university in Spain to learn Spanish/ enjoy the culture for a year. We were really interested in Spain, which would be considered southern Spain, no? Would you recommend not going here if we're looking to learn the language accurately?
Oops, I meant to say interested in "sevilla", not Spain

I think the best choice would be Madrid.
Don't go to Barcelona, most of the courses in their Universities are in Catalan not in Castillan.
As for the south of Spain, well, I guess that if you take some courses in a University, you will learn proper spanish but may be it will be a bit harder for you to understand people in the streets. Well, this could be a good training, if you succeed in understanding them (I also forgot to say that they speak very fast) you will be able to understand any world wide spanish speaking people
One very good point about people from the south : they are the nicest and the funiest people in Spain, I can talk about this, my mother is from Sevilla. |

Good info., thanks Mr Wizzz!
Yeah, I'm ready to leave my job, and the muzh already quit his. So, we've decided if he doesn't find another one by mid November, we're applying for visas, enrolling in class, and taking a break from our everyday routine!
Secretly, I'm hoping he doesn't find one, because I really really want to go! |

Mr Wizzz is right about southern Spain (Andulacia) I was there a long time ago and yes they do cut out many of the endings...Madrid would be a great place to learn Spanish. Spain is one of my favorite countries...try to go to a village in the south called, Ronda..the views are great.. |

Wow, Krasatulya, that is a great idea. Hope your muzh doesn't get a job.... This is a chance. One chance you have before children come. |

You're right, that's exactly the way I see it. There will be plenty of time for me to work in a cubicle, but this opportunity won't come knockin' often! |

We did it once. Just took off to Russia ( with two kids!) Job is always here. Like Russians say, "Job is not a wolf, it's not gonna run away to the woods".
We've had so much fun. I did regret though, that we didn't do it before kids were born. How stupid we were. Working, working, working...
Well, what are we doing now? Working, working...
So, Krasa, grab your hubby and go, don't even think. You can always come back. |
