When the application askes for all "professional, charitable, and social" organizations that I have ever been a member or supporter of, what exactly are they looking for?
I'm assuming the question is meant to screen out terrorists and spies and such, but surely they don't mean to include everything? I've dontated to many, many a charitable organization in my day.... and does Girl Scouts, for instance, count as a social organization?
Also, at what numbers may I reach the consulates in the US? I've tried D.C. as well as New York, but after one ring a recording informed me that the call could not be completed as dialed. :-/ |

I always leave that seciont blank and have never had any problems. I have never really understood why they ask that either. I would think that question is best just ignored.
You can find the contact numbers to all of the Consulates in the US at www.ruscon.com. The site is a bit hard to navigate but all of the info is there. There really isn't much use in contacting the Consulates as they never answer the phone. You will just listen to the most annoying messages while on hold and then be disconnected. If you have questions it is probably best to ask others who have applied for visas in the past. |

Thanks -- those were the numbers I had, so maybe they were just oveloaded.
What did you other American citizens put on the form? Does leaving it blank seem the best way to go?
Also, in the section for my contact information, there just isn't room for my name and address and phone number AND fax number AND email....
Should address and phone be enough? |

| i filled in my professional organizations such as National Ed. Assoc. I gave no email or fax number. Took about 2 weeks to process my app. |

| In the contact information section, just give your address and phone number. They only need the phone number in case they have any questions. In all the times I applied for a visa, I only ever received one phone call. In most cases you will only hear from them when you recieve the visa. Email and fax are really not needed. |

| You should think of russian visa application as a formality. No one in russia cares whether you care for puppies at a local shelter or belong to Salvation Army volunteer movement. |

| If you don't want to skip that question entirely, just put in the ones you've assisted most recently. I know there was no way I could remember many things I've done in the past few years let alone all my grown life. You can make the list as long or short as you like, attach an extra sheet if you need to. |
