I think the title says it all really. Is it possible to transport a car by rail from say Ulan Ude or Vladivostok to Moscow by rail? Looking at the Russian Railways site I see they do have freight services, but there's nothing specific. I presume there might be car transoprters as I remember seeing one in the background of the DVD of Long Way Round, but perhaps that's contract shipping only?

You will need the services of a Russian Freight Forwarding Company, preferably one with offices or representatives in BOTH departure and arrival locations. The vehicle would have to fit inside a 20' container. i also suspect that it will have to be emptied of fuel or have minimal fuel in the tank. Perhaps start by consulting a freight forwarder in Moscow who speaks english. What you propose is indeed possible but there may be alot of paperwork involved and certainty of arrival on a particular date might prove difficult to organise.
