Do you have regional stereotypes in Russia? we have a few in the UK, almost all insulting, heres some:
Scottish - Tight with money
Irish - Stupid
Welsh - Sheep shaggers - where men are men and sheep are nervous
Liverpool - Thieves/heroin addicts
Newcastle - Big drinkers
East Anglians - Farmers
Cornwall/Devon - Marry their sisters
Glasgow - Violent/alcoholics
Yorkshire - Good looking/great lovers/generous/funny
I'm from Yorkshire by the way...lucky eh ? |

Ukrainian - lazy, greedy, hate Russians (calls them "moskaly") without reason
Georgian - masculine, hotblooded, sometimes pictured as bi-sexual
Chuckcha - ignoramus but clever in some way like nature survival and intuitive vision of truth.
Estonian - slow-witted (because of their words Sa-a-a-rem-a-a-a)
Armenian, Jew - cunning, miser, good with bussinness and money
Chechen - killer, slaver, thief
Belarussian - openhearted, provincial
American & European politic (special race) - deceitful, twofaced, love to cover his businness or political interests by word "democratic".

I noticed the Uzebeks to be selling everything and anything...Like selling watermelon at 4:00 in the morning. You can litterally go to a store or a restraunt and knock on the door at early hours in the morning and they will wake up to get your business...crazy!!! |

I posted the following link earlier this year:
http://www.langust.ru/review/xeno-ru1.shtml (page 1 of 20 pages)
"The Xenophobe's Guide to Russians"
Lots of good (plus funny) stereotypes described about Russians throughout. Also, some regarding Russian ethnic groups, Russia's regional neighbours, and Russian stereotypes about Westerners.
Great read, very funny, yet informative!
For example:
".....There are many Russian jokes about the Chukchis, a small tribe who live in the furthest part of the Far East of Russia. Typical examples are:
A Chukchi enrols for a course on Russian literature at Moscow University. His professor asks: "Have you read Pushkin?" "No." "Have you read Gogol?" "No." "Tolstoy? Dostoievsky?" The Chukchi shakes his head. "Chukchi going to be writer, not reader."........" |

Good stuff!
eg.
".....Chukcha, why did you buy a fridge if it's so cold in tundra?" Chukcha replies: "Why, is minus fifty Celsius outside, is minus ten inside, is minus five in the fridge—a warm place, however!"....." |

Moskovites aren't very popular out on the countryside. Often you hear "Áîëøàÿ Äåðåâíÿ" (Big countryside) about Moscow, indicating that even the city is BIG, the people are still seen upon as "rednecks".
Like we in Sweden calls habitants of Stockholm as Zero-eighters (the area code 0 or Tokholmare (Tok = idiot). |

well, what about stereotypes of men fromn the region of Ufa? I think we've just broken up...says he needs space. this russian girl who he dated for one month in 2004 flew to san francisco last night, he's not strong enough to tell her to get a hotel room, and now tells me he is confused about he and i and he/her. but he only knew her for one month. he saw her again as just friends during the time he and I have been seeing each other. now she flew to san francisco and is at his place. i told him you need to be fair to you and i and tell her to get a hotel room. he tells me he is confused, this is so bad a situation for me right now.
Is this something normal in russian relationships?
please help. i've been drinking heavy screwdrivers and just feel horrible right now. he says he needs his space but i am just lost right now. |

I object to this pathetic stereotyping of people especially calling Irish "stupid" one must ask what planet your living on coming out with tripe like this post, i can assure you my friend Irish people are far from stupid and i resent you saying as much, one could always say Yorkshire people all wear flat caps and eat pies and drink bitter and are farmers or chavs in Leeds but obviously that would not be entirely true would it. |
