Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me. MID is being its usual charming non-forthcoming self.

I'm getting a new passport while in Moscow (I'm a US citizen on a multi-entry 6-month business visa) and I know I need to get a new visa put in my new passport in order to leave the country.

My question is, how in the world do I do that? I assume I go to some MID office (where?), pay a certain amount of money (how much?), fill out a form (which?) and turn it in for processing (to whom, and how long does it take?). The US Embassy said it'd probably be an exit visa only, good for a certain amount of days (how many? and is this true?).

Any answers?
Thanks.

I'm sure US citizen Services at the embassy can help with your questions. If you're getting a new passport in Moscow then you have been there. Did you ask them these questions?

I'm having trouble understanding several things in your post.

The Russians would not have given you a 6 month business visa with less than 6 months left on your passport. Why are you getting a new US passport in Russia? Was your passport lost or stolen?

Why in the world would you need an exit visa? With a 6 month ME business visa there should be no need of any kind for you to have an exit visa.

I don't get it.
