Russian Visa Forum | RE: The New Russian Visa Registration Procedure 2007

I got my invitation papers yesterday via mail. Quick and cheap! Didn't bother getting the 1 day quick service. Had it in within less than half a day anyway.

I'm going to go to the consulate with all the papers on monday (I think).

As soon as I get to St. Peterburg I'm going to take the adventure on with my friend and just try and register the visa manually. We can always use one of the travel agencies to do it! It seems quite easy.

Like Romdur says, you can just let someone do it. They'll make copies and you can pick up the documents 2 days later (or something).

I've learnt a lot in my research.

It just seems easy at this stage....

- Get a health insurance declaration
- Buy a visa invitation (visa support documents, voucher)
- Go to the consulate with all the papers and photo's and stuff
- Register your visa at the OVIR or police OR let some office do it for a fee.

thank you... ill look into it more. its confusing because this very site mentions there is a way to avoid it but i can't find that schedule ----

""For example, if your destination is St. Petersburg, you should take a train to Warsaw, then take a train from Warsaw to Kaunas, then take a train from Kaunas to Vilnius, and then take a train from Vilnius to St. Petersburg, the total price will be around $75 one way. If you take a direct train Warsaw - St. Petersburg, you'll go through Belorussia, it'll cost around $85 one way and you'll need a transit visa (+$30 at least).""

thank you again everyone, hopefully i will figure this all out!

Russian Visa Forum | RE: Invitation letter to Brazil (staying at my friend's)

Don't worry too much, you have plenty of time.

I have read that it can take several weeks for a Russian citizen to make an official private letter of invitation.

The good news is that for not very much expense, you can get an invitation letter from a travel company (for example, through this website). If you do this, you will save your Russian friend some time and money, and get your invitation very quickly. But a specific company can often make invitations only for certain countries, so you must find a company that can issue invitations for Brazilians.

At some Russian consulates, a FAX of the letter is acceptable, but others require the actual letter -- ask your Russian Embassy about this! If they need the letter, you will have to pay for international mailing, and allow some extra days for this.

More good news: the invitation address doesn't have to match where you are staying. I suggest that on your visa application (you should apply for a tourist visa), where they ask what cities you will visit, write both Krasnodar, and the city given as the invitation address. That you will register your visa in a town different from the invitation address is no problem.

Finally, you can generally apply for a tourist visa up to 90 days before your trip, so you should be able to start your application right away.

Russian Visa Forum | RE: once I get to Russia what happens

Ditto to all the above, just a little more detail:

In Russia, your visa (a full-page sticker permanently affixed to a visa page in your passport) serves as both an entry visa and exit visa. Because of this, losing a passport is a very difficult situation. I am careful with my passport when traveling.

The Migration Card (which you'll probably receive on the plane, but maybe need to pick up as you approach Passport Control at the airport) is a slip of paper. Things to fill in include your passport number, the visa number (near the upper right-hand corner of the visa), purpose of your visit (probably tourism for you) and the address where you will stay. Most of these items you will write twice, on both the left and right halves of the Card.

When you arrive, the Passport Control officer will tear off the left half of the Card, and return to you the right (departure) half, having stamped it. I always keep this in between the pages of my passport. It can be a big problem if you don't have it when you leave Russia.

All in all, it's fairly simple, with the hotel handling your registration. Just have your passport and the departure half of your migration card with you when you get to passport control on the way to your flight home, and all the formalities are taken care of.

For most tourists, there is no need to deal with customs forms - just go through the green (nothing to declare) channel when you pass through Customs, entering and leaving.

One practical note about passport control -- recently at Moscow airports, I have had a couple of hour plus waits getting through passport control. So I recommend making allowance for this, and especially to be plenty early arriving to the international airport or terminal for your flight back home.

The train will likely only pull into the yard about an hour or so before departure time. I took the Rossiya from Moscow to Vladivostok on 1 January of this year and the train left at something like 2250 - and didn't pull into the yard until around ten pm (2200). We loaded up and were gone within the hour.

This quastion must have been given 10000 times but i cant find a finall answer. If someone could help me sort this it would make my day.

1)I will my self get a tourst visa but live with a friend and i have no clue what adress i should write on the migration form (the on you get when arriving in russia) that i stay on. If its my friends or a false hotel.

I mean i will have a tourst visa should i not state a hotel on the migration form? I think i will run in to problems if i state a private adress.....

2)Then i dont know if my friend can register someone with a tourst visa on his private adress.
If someone can help me with this ít will make my trip to russia much more conviniant.

For what it's worth, I just checked prices on round trips Istanbul to London, $298 in January by British Airways. But 2 weeks of lodging in England might be pretty expensive.

However you work this, best of luck!

Hi guys,

I've wanted to travel to Russia for a long time and now I've undertaken a gap year I can fulfill this ambition.

I intend to travel for 3 months at around March next year, after some research it seems that a single entry 90 day business visa would be suitable.

It does state in a variety of places, including this site, that one doesn't have to be travelling on business to obtain a business visa. However, the London consulate (and the company that does it for them) says that a company letter is required. As does sites such as realrussia.com, after the application form has been completed.

Anyone know a way round this? Or have gained a business visa without a company letter?

This site mentions a "youth connections" visa (I am 1 in the troubleshooter, how does one go about getting this?

Thanks for you help guys
Hi Trevar,
Anatoly is right, Tomsk is a wonderful city, if you visit Siberia you have to see it! Streets with houses of wood are just great! It's about 4 hours by bus from Novosibirsk or 12-13 hours by train from Krasnoyarsk.

Did you notice that Krasnoyarsk is represented on 10 Ruble notes?

I think it's great that WTR is branching out and using things like Facebook, and I am a fan of WTR on Facebook. However, I find the Facebook link on every forum page to be distracting and annoying. It can also slow page loading considerably at some times. Perhaps it would be better if this information was just on the Forum homepage and a few other well chosen locations, but not on every forum page.
_________________
Chris Marks

In Moscow it can be nearly instantaneous [have your 1 ruble/day fee ready!] or take half an hour if the registration person is on a break. In some outlying areas it can take a couple of days, but often your passport will be photocopied and given back to you right away.
_________________
Chris Marks

We went and visited my daughter's grandparents in the Murmansk region this past June and also had a great trip. We had to renew her Russian passport before we went. It had expired in April and I sent it and the application for a new passport to the consulate in early May. I was told it would take about a week and remember receiving everything as expected.

We were able to do the application in English, but I believe they must now be done in Russian and are a little more complicated, so allow time for translation etc. if you need this. The consulate also says that you should send the expired passport with the new application. I do not know if they will issue a new passport before the old one expires, so you might want to check on this before you send off your application.

Good luck,
_________________
Chris Marks

Dating etc. is a huge subject that is discouraged in this forum, which is oriented toward Russian travel and exploration.

Just to clarify, it is fine to talk about dating and forming relationships as this is often an integral part of ones travel experience.

It is not OK to advertise dating agencies or whine about scams concerning these agencies. There are many forums on the net where this can be done. WTR is not one of them.
