The Baltic States are NATO members. Ukraine may or may not end up being a NATO member depending on whether the Ukrainian President at the time is pro-West or pro-Kremlin. Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko will not be President forever. Maybe Russia is considering annexing Belarus before there is a change in Belarussian politics and Belarus applies for NATO membership. A political change as has happened in Ukraine, Georgia, etc.
Installing radar and anti-missiles in Belarus is a possibility if Belarus is a NATO member. |
Russia and Belarus SHOULD reunite.
A. Strategical advantage: American complexes in Poland and Chezh Republic can now be countered with Russian missiles in Belarus. Also it is a good "Window to Europe", meaning it will make trade easier. (P.S. Did you know, Russia has removed its embargo on Polish made meat products as of yesterday).
B. Ethnical ties: Russians and Belorussians are basically the same people. Seriously, Belorussians are actually of more pure Slavic blood then Russians (as in, they didn't mix with the Tatar-Mongols as much. ), but other then that, there is no difference. Languages are similar too, not that that makes any difference upon the matter, as most Belorussians speak a very fluent Russian.
C. Politics: both Russia and Belarus have a very similar style of government, a so-called "Managed Democracy". Well, in Lukashenko's case, it's an outright Dicatorship, while Putin still tries to, at least, make it look like a Democracy. They fit together like two pieces of a puzzle.
D. NATO expansion: Lukashenko sees how NATO expands in the Baltic States, and he is affraid it will go after Belarus as well. If he gets scared enough, he will run to Tsar Vladimir for protection. Just like in the ancient times... |
