Hi guys, i`ll go to russia in a few of months. I´ll stay 9 days ( maybe 4 in moscu and 5 in Stp). I thinking "spend" one day getting around one of this site. Im between Rostov or Veliky Novgorod. I have a few of doubts. Wich city choose. And how safe is if im going alone. Its worth take a trip on the day to visit them ? I´ve special interest in Rostov but any suggestion is welcome.
If you have any update info about: train or bus time and fares, security of any of this two city ill be very glad.

thanks

Novgorod is a wonderful city and it is quite safe. There is a hotel near Detinets called the Volkov and it is quite cosy. If you want to know about early Russia, then I suggest this city. There are regular trains traveling from Moscow to Novgorod to SPB.
There you will see what a town looks like in 1700s of Russia, the oldest catheral in Russia, and original capital of Russia. It is also the oldest city in Russia.
I think it is must see.
