|
|
Mods: I have read the importing cars links but many are quite old now and I did not find any to address the questions I have.
So I am hoping Dittrich or another one of you knowledgable coves could assist?
If a Russian citizen takes a UK (EU) registered car into Russia as a temporary (or undecided) import, and that car is registered in their name in the UK, so they have the UK registration documents in their name already, can it get a temporary Russian plate (maybe a tax free one) or remain on its UK plates? And more crucially, for how long before the car must exit again?
Also, does anyone have a link to the import tax rates for permanent imports into Russia, or up to date information?
Any links and/or info much appreciated. |

Dear Mr Manchester (what a strange name!)
You'll get your temporary 10 day certificate at the border. Then you visit the customs to prolong your certificate. Foreigners can prolong only as long as their visa is valid and provided they are registered at an address in russia. With Russians however, I don't know as I never yet bothered to buy a russian passport I seem to remember from the distant past that russians returning from abroad might be allowed to bring in one motor vehicle tax free. Sorry no links I'm afraid. However, I think the best action would be to ask the customs about prolonging the vremeni vvosd and the import process, then a trip to the GAI or whoever does it now about getting some numerals (number plate). You are russian so its all different for you. Me, I'm just a foreigner.
Rgds

Dittrich,
Thanks for that. I am not actually Russian, my wife is, but we take a few cars up to Estonia and have had enquiries from Russians in Russia when advertising them, so these are questions I should know the answers to.
I heard of this where a Russian can take one in tax free, but can find no reliable info on it.
Can anyone else shed any light on this please? |
