Regestering Visas... nightmare

I am travelling to Russia with my friend. We are planning to stay with his family in Petersburg. I know how impossible it is to get a visitor visa so I intend to apply for a tourist visa. Following the instructions on the waytorussia website I applied for support documents. I am now getting confusing emails from the company processing my support documents telling me that because I am not staying in a hotel my landlord needs to go to the OVIR to register me. I don't have a landlord. I thought I would receive a pretend booking at a hotel or something... Did I miss something?

Well with a few emails at least. Now it get to worry about meeting my boyfriends homophobic family in Russia! I have an exciting trip a head of me My first trip outside of the Americas!!
