It'll be my first time ever in Moscow soon and I'll be staying there for some months for a language course.
I'm very much worried about the current problems I've read of about race riots and such, being that I am a Latin American (eh, for comparison's sake, I look like Vanessa Hudgens or Demi Lovato) woman.
Should I be worried about this? If something does happen while I'm there, is there anything I should do? Any recommendations? |

I'll explain you the problem in the essence.
Preconditions:
1. Militia staff is quite corrupt. Additionally they have unwritten orders do not to register racial related crimes as racial ones because it spoils the statistic and supposedly inflames the racial antagonisms.
2. People from the Caucasus are used to solve problems by bribes. They are enough active and well organised to apply as much as possible effort in order to get a jailed comrade acquitted. It is not question for them to determine if a comrade actually committed a crime and deserves a prison sentence. It is question for them where to bring a bribe.
They are perfectly fit each other. 
Now, let's take an example. A crime happens. Criminals are from Caucasus. Militia is expected to catch the criminals quickly but it is reluctant to do is efficiently and when it catches the criminals they are often acquitted after a short period of time. As a result the criminals run to the endless fields and mountains of Mother Russia. The chances to catch them are near zero, especially if they run to the Caucasus.
So the men from Caucasus feel their impunity and become more and more insolent. People don't like it and there are riots.
But! The riots are actually against corrupt and inefficient militia, negligence of officials. Of course there are crowds of the wild people who wander in the streets.
You are a Latin American girl. It means that you are very different from a Caucasian man or an everybody hated militia man. Congratulations! Nobody will offend you because of your look. However there are three main threats which apply to everybody (including Russians themselves) in such circumstances:
1. People might get caught in a street mob which doesn't think at all.
2. People might get caught in the middle of a street fight. It is especially dangerous in a closed place such as a metro without many ways to escape.
3. Some wild idiots who are usually quiet all the time will walk in the streets and seek a victim (the race of a victim doesn't mean anything).
So, yes. You should worry as if the same thing happened in your country. |

Wrong!!!
The riots have nothing to do with authority and everything to do with Nazi's.
Russia has shown it's true colours to the world and the world is disgusted. Thankfully the government is finally taking note and this is the beginning of the end for racists and Nazis like Ender.
You will see a lot more Russian Nazis getting their faces smashed throughout Moscow and St Petersburg in the near future.
Well done Russian government and militsia for teaching these Nazis a lesson. |

There was long answers, i will say shortly:
I'm from Moscow, and I should say that for you this problem is not actual at all. Peoples from LAtin America are welcoming by Moscowites. Just remember standart rules of security in big sities. |
