I'm in Moscow now and wouldn't mind doing a little grocery shopping for my upcoming train trip. I'm staying a few blocks from the Kremlin and have already tried the small grocery in the Okhotny Ryad mall. That's good for soda, beer, bread, crackers, etc., but the one thing I really wanted was to stock up on some noodles - the kind to which you just add water. Would be very nice if someone could provide details/directions/metro stop to a larger grocery where I might find more variety.

thanks,

danbrew

You are unfortunately in the center of supermarket no-man's-land.

You have been to the Sedmoi Continent in Okhodny Ryad, which is a high end supermarket chain but that particular store is very small and limited. Last year before I left they were remonting the far end of the first floor of the GUM for a supermarket. Perhaps it's finished by now?

Your other closest choice is the supermarket on the Novy Arbat. On the neon pedestrian mall side of the street with all the kazinos, just down from the Kremlin. This is a very large very comprehensive supermarket with a lot of foreign products as well as usual kinds of groceries. High end, pricey. But it will likely have what you're looking for. It is the ONLY other supermarket in the area.

(crap sorry, can't remember the actual name of the store. It's not a chain market)

If you need directions let me know--but the Novy Arbat kazinos are pretty easy to find..... Wink [/i]

There is a good little grocery store near the Ukraina Hotel. It's right next to a McDonald's near Kievskaya Metro station. I stayed in Moscow for 3 weeks 4 years ago and it was where I did most of my grocery shopping.
