Hello all,
I internationally mailed 4 boxes of used clothing and household goods to myself at my new address in Russia. I had each box insured for ~700US each to cover the replacement value of the goods - because I read that the post is unreliable in Russia. The boxes arrived promptly (which I'm happy and a little surprised about), and 1 box was no problem. The other 3 are being held by the post office until I pay them ~1500US! I'm still waiting for an explanation of the charges but this seems really stupid to me. The goods are for my personal use (and basically excess baggage).
Does anyone have experience or advice for fighting these kinds of fees? I'd be happy to open the boxes for customs/post office and show them the contents (which would help prove the personal nature of the clothing etc).
I really appreciate any suggestions or feedback that anyone can offer.
