My understanding is that if you are a permanent resident of the US and you visit Russia, you won't have a problem. If you intend to live in Russia, all bets are off.

I have a Russian daughter, so this hasn't been a great concern for me. If I were you I would start with your region's Russian Consulate. One thing I would not do is believe any of the online scare mongering. There is lots of it, but I have yet to see any reputable news source give any account of a visitor being conscripted into the Russian Army, regardless of citizenship.

yea i was thinking of going to my local embassy/consul etc, but not sure what approach to use, to lie and pretend i wasnt born in russia and ask for a visa, or tell the truth and renew a passport i havnt used for 13yrs.

theres a reason why scaremongering and rumoours start, theres usually some truth in it Crying or Very sad

im not afraid of being conscripted on the spot, most problems with russia arise when you want to leave, so afraid they will not let me leave to the EU because of bla bla bla...
