"at school" implies the present physical location of something or someone.
q: Where is your backpack?
a: It's at school.
"in school" can mean the same thing, but often is used to indicate that someone is enrolled in some course of study or that school is ones primary activity.
q: What's John up to these days?
a: He's in [medical, law, etc.] school.
This answer is true and correct even if John is currently shopping, at home, or anywhere else (including at school). |
