Hello
I am travelling to Russia on sunday and my destination is Tomsk.
I am flying to Moscow but i want to get the train to Tomsk.
I will arrive in Moscow around 4 am monday morning. My plan was to go to yaroslavsky station and get a ticket on the day for a train leaving in the afternoon. However i haven't factored in visa registration. If i get the train i won't arrive in Tomsk until wednesday or thursday so i won't be able to register until then, possibly beyond the 3 day limit. Will this be a problem? Am i likely to be stopped or fined by the police?
A possible alternative is to stay one night in a hotel in Moscow and get my visa stamped there. Would this cover me for the journey to Tomsk?
If i do get into a sticky situation i might have trouble as i speak very little russian. I really want to get the train but it seems like there are many potential pitfalls.
If anyone has any advice it will be much appreciated.
Mike

You won't have any problems - the rules are that you must register within 3 business days in the city in which you are staying. Since you'll be staying in Moscow for a day or so, you don't have to register in Moscow. Simply register in Tomsk.

As Dan said, you won't have any problems, but for insurance just keep your train ticket so that you can show that you weren't in Moscow for three days.

Many thanks for the posts that is good news. Didn't realise from the guide books that that was the case. I will definitely keep ahold of my tickets just to make sure.
