Hello everyone, my question is as follows:
If I travel from Vienna to Tashkent/Uzbekistan via Moscow, where I have to change planes, do I need a transit visa? My stay at the Sheremetyevo Airport (Terminal 1) will be about 5 hours on the way to Uzbekistan, less than 2 hours on the way back. Oh, and I´m a citizen of Austria, if that makes any difference.
I would be grateful for any advice in this matter! |

Technically, no, you don't need a transit visa. However, the airline might refuse to let you on the plane without one. You need to check with them (Aeroflot, I assume).
And it should be Sheremetyevo, Terminal 2... |

There is a special zone for transits under 4 hours. For 5 hours you probably need a transit visa. You have to check with your travel agent. If you bought it on the internet, staff of the website should be able to answer that. If not,
you can also contact people at SVO (better not...), or ask the consulate of Uzbekistan (they really should know).And of course the airliner should know.
Anyway my guess is you'll regret saving 100 ˆ by doing this long transfer. |

Thanks for your comments; I´ve contacted Aeroflot and they wrote that I wouldn´t need a transit visa if I don´t change the airport/terminal, so I guess I´ll go by that information - and take along a copy of the e-mail the airline sent me, just in case...
(As for the long transfer, the booking unfortunately was rather last-minute, so not much choice if you don´t want to spend a fortune...) |

If the email is in English, I really doubt it will be any help with the Cerber at the entrance of the short transit zone (it's upstairs). But anyway I realized there shouldn't be any problem : It will take you 15 minutes to reach the queue, then you'll queue for 20 minutes, so you're basically on time. The worst that could happen is that Cerber sends you back to the back of the queue, barking that your flight is due in more than 4 hours. To avoid that possibility you could take a book and read 30 minutes (you won't find seats in that little area).
Check carefully that both flights are at SVO2. You definitely need a visa to go from SVO2 to SVO1 or vice versa. |

| As I promised to report my experiences at the Sheremetyevo 2 transfer terminal I just wanted to let you know that everything went well: one look at my visa, no further questions asked, regardless of transfer time. |
