So following gaijin's helpful advice, I checked out S7's flights and seems like I have two options. I am supposed to land in Domodedovo at 12:35 pm. S7 has flights to Chelyabinsk at 2:45pm and 6:45pm. I'd rather not wait 6 hours at the airport, but don't know if 2 hours will be enough to go through customs and baggage claim and change terminals etc, especially if there's any kind of delay. What do people who have experience with this airport think?

The safest option would be to book the later flight and hope that if you made it in time, S7 would give you an available seat on the earlier flight. This is clearly what I would do if flying in the US, but I have no experience with this in Russia; perhaps others can weigh in. Of course one could also book the earlier flight and hope to get a seat on the later flight if you missed the earlier one.

Six hours can go very quickly and makes for a very relaxed experience through passport control, baggage claim, and customs. You also have time to get something to eat, use a real bathroom, and get/exchange money.

Good luck,

What you're proposing is not practical. I've been almost 2 hours at Domodedevo just getting through passport control. Then you have to find your luggage and claim it and go through customs.

After that you need to get to the other end of the terminal and find the check in desk for the next flight, register and go upstairs, get through security (which is stringent) and make your way to the departure gate where you may have to go through another security check.

I don't think it's doable unless you have an extraordinary run of good luck. That's very unlikely.

Take the suggestion of camarks, book the later flight and if by some fluke you can make the earlier one, ask if they will let you on. If you miss it there may be no seats on the later one.

Waiting around at airports is a pain but missing the flight is a far bigger one.

Domodedovo is not nearly as bad as SVO, but 2 hours is not enough to account for possible delays of your flight, possible lengthy passport control etc. If by chance you make it early, you can ask your ticket to be changed but in my experience it will cost you 100ˆ. Have some good books, take your time at lunch...
Of course it is likely that when you will get there you will see that you had time to take the early flight, but it's too risky. If you have a ticket for the early flight and miss it, you can be stuck in Moscow.
Here is info for the transfer (at the bottom) : http://www.domodedovo.ru/en/main/transfer/info/.
