I was looking at train times between the two cities and some range from 4 hr up to 1day and 14 hrs. The 8 hr trip is basically the same cost as the 1 day plus. Is this right or am I missing something. Also what is the best class to travel in, we are a family of 7? 2 Adults and 5 children. Thank you so much for your help.

The 4 hour train is the super fast (and super expensive) bullet type train while the other one goes on a very roundabout route. For your family needs I suggest a day train which has seats rather than sleepers so you can all stay in reasonable proximity to one another.
