|
|
| Hi, I am an American studying in Moscow this upcoming year. I am already in Moscow and my parents want to send me clothes and such. I have heard that packages from the U.S. sometimes get custom's fees on them. Can anyone clarify this for me? |

| I do not know the exact amount, but if it's over $400 USD then you might need to pay tax and duty fees. Just keep the price under $100 when filling out the customs form and everything should be okay. |

As far as I know it depends how the item is posted.
Express mail you can send up to $100 ( I think ). If you exceed that then you have to pay ( I think ) 30% duty.
I heard the limit for normal mail is much higher but don't know what it is.. I'm pretty sure USPS.com has info on it. |

Here it says only if it more than $2300.
I have a similar question as I just moved here. I am having my turn tables shipped to me as well as clothes. The value is way over $1500 on the turntables and they are used but I was wondering if i'm going to have to pay %30 percent of the value for the whole package (including the clothes and considering how expensive it is to ship to Russia I don't want to have to ship two boxes unless it will be less than the import duties.) |

From what I know from my and my friends' exprerience on Amazon ordering is:
1. If you ship a package with a commercial service, the price should be less than 5000 rubles INCLUDING the shipment cost.
2. In case you use ordinary mail (which is VERY slow) the price should be no greater than 10 000 rubles INCLUDING the shipment cost.
Otherwise you'll have to spend at least a WHOLE day (or two, or three) at the customs, claiming you're good and lawfull and asking to please just take the customs fee and leave you alone with your package |

I also have a customs question but also maybe some information as well. I have been preparing to do some work in Russia and have been sending equipment/supplies through both FedEx and USPS. There is a size limit on the package though, I don't recall the exact dimensions but you should check before you pack something that seems large, I had to repack one box into two at the post office when I went. It seems fedex does not have this same size limit but there limit is 20kg and less then $75 US in value (I just called since they returned a package to me that was more than that, 21kg and $500 US). Not sure if there is a USPS limit.
So my question is, this package I have is actually a plastic barrel with a shipping container inside, for shipping ultra cold things, but I am trying to take/send it completely empty for my use there. It is to big for USPS and to much value for FEDEX, it seems my only option is to take it with me on the plane and declare it at customs at the airport (anybody have other suggestion). I do have to also fly out of Domodadova the same day I arrive at Sheremetyevo II and will have to recheck it on my flight from there. Is it worth calling customs at Sheremetyevo first? and if so anybody think there might be an english speaking agent present (my Russian is still to poor to communicate my question clearly I think).
