|
|
Hello,
I'm trying to get a printable list of my itinerary for my upcoming trip, but after selecting all the trains and the stop-overs and filling out my passport information, the page goes completely blank.
I want to go get the tickets myself from a train station when I arrive in St. Petersburg, but I was wondering if I need some sort of "official" list for the trains I want to take. Since I don't speak russian, it is essential that the ticket vendor will understand what I want.
Is it sufficient if I just print out a list of the trains I want, or do I need something else? The web page promises to send an e-mail of my itinerary, but no e-mail has arrived and the page doesn't seem to work.
I am leaving on sunday, so I'm in a bit of a hurry. I tried to find an e-mail address to send this question to, but it appears that this forum is for questions? If, however, this can be resolved through e-mail, my address is anton.vanha-majamaa@helsinki.fi

Where do you want to go? What website are you using.
No you dont need any official list.
It is easy to buy tickets in St Petersburg even if you don't speak Russian, there is nearly always someone who speaks enough english at the ticket office. The only problem that you may encounter is that the trains are full. |

I'm using http://trains.waytorussia.net/ , and our trip is supposed to be
St. Petersburg - Moscow - Irkutsk - Ulan-Bataar and back.
We've scheduled the trains we want to take, so maybe if I just print out a list of them, hopefully the vendor will understand what I want.
Are the trains usually full this time of the year, or does that depend on the train? We've scheduled our trip pretty punctually, so I'm hoping we don't have to change a lot of the trains, because that'd screw up our plans. Luckily they have a lot of trains at least up until Irkutsk, but the prices seem to vary considerably. |

I couldn't get it to work either. Probably the Mongolian sector is screwing it up.
What you suggest is exactly what I would do, ie print out an itinerary with a list of preferred trains (with their numbers) in both Russian and English or whatever underneath and give it to the ticket person. They can then indicate which is available and you can negotiate an alternative. I did this in China.
Regarding full trains, Russian trains are almost never sparsely populated but at this time of year most people have gone back to work and school so there should not be any great inconvenience.
Prices do vary and the rule of thumb is the higher the train number the more expensive the ticket. In theory the higher number trains are faster and more comfortable, I have not found a great deal of difference in terms of comfort. |
