Hello...
I want to go in Russia from 12/2004 to 05/2005, and I guess the best of the visas for that is the business visa. As I will stay at my friend's place, I should register in the UVIR office. But, as I won't work, there's no problem?
I saw throught your site that business visa is for a case like mine. But I'd really like to know about all the things I have to do about all that.
Thank you

Hi Andre, yes, the business visa is the best option for you. It is also easier to register if you live in an apartment or at somebody's place. You will just need your friend to make a landlord letter for you (a sample is available at this site at http://waytorussia.net/RussianVisa ).
It's not a problem you don't work. Actually, on a business visa you don't have the right to work in Russia. Officially, it's for meetings, conferences, business discussions, consultants etc. but not work.
So, don't worry, just get an invitation, bring it to the Russian consulate, get the visa, get it registered when you come to Russia. That's all. |

| Thank you for your reply. I have one more question. As I will stay for a long time in Russia, obviously, I will stop my job in France. And what could i say to the visa support (and after to the russian embassy here), that request for company name and address? |

Andre,
You did not state what type of invitation you are trying to get, but it is important to make sure the invitation you have is a BUSINESS invitation, as a homestay visa will not enable you to get a business visa - at least that is my understanding from a question I posted here.

| I meant, that I want to stay in the place of my friend, and for about 6 monthes. So, is this good enough BUSINESS visa, as I will stop my job here in France, and won't work in Russia? |

| Yes, sure, you can actually be unemployed and come to Russia on an interview or to look for new business opportunities or something like that. Perhaps if you a member of some organization or unversity or something like that it'll help if you put it as a place of work in visa application form. The business visa will work fine for your needs, remember though that you need the business invitation first and don't forget to register your visa after you arrive to Russia. |
