I'm booked to fly on Aeroflot airlines from Seoul to Moscow.

I bought an economy ticket, but I want a first class seat.

So if I slipped a flight attendant say 1000 roubles (which is about $50 bucks US) when I boarded - do you think they would agree upgrade me to first class?

Or would they see that as being socially ackward / inappropriate?

I can pretty much guarantee you that you won't get upgraded to anything for a lousy $50. First, $50 is currently almost 1400 roubles. Second, Aeroflot can "officially" upgrade you from coach to business class (I don't think there's a difference between biz and first, though) for $500 at the ticket counter.

I've read accounts of people being upgraded once they already board and if business class is not full for as little as $100 to the flight attendant, and most of the time $200. They want cash, whether it's at the ticket counter or onboard the plane, and they want US dollars (or Euros).

Granted, I am basing this on what I've read. I will likely be flying AeroSvit instead of Aeroflot, but if I can upgrade for $200, I may fly Aeroflot from JFK. What I don't want to do is get caught in coach for 9.5 hours from JFK to SVO because business class is full!

I'm taking a one-way flight and I'll be gone for 10 months, so I think I'll probably take the "safe" route and go ahead and pay up front for business class. Wink

Yep, the going rate is $200...tested and proven. Just wait till everyone boards, then take an empty seat in first class. the flight attendant is sure to come over asking to see your ticket, since she knows your not supposed to be there. Just have the 200 dollars in the ticket jacket when you show it to her. good luck!

They don't give you a bunch of shit when you board the plane if you don't already have a first class ticket? I know on American airline flights, you had damned well better be armed with a first class ticket before you even approach the plane. I also realize that Aeroflot is WAY different than an American airline, but I'm just checking. I don't mind coming back to coach, then working the deal, but (and this is the important part) I have to make sure I don't get stuck in coach.

Does anyone have any "close calls" or flat denials regarding "black market upgrades?"
