Hello everyone. I am new in the forum and would appreciate some information about Mongolia. Me and 2 other friends are planning to stop for a week in Mongolia before we continue our trip up to Irkutsk. I´ve read something about the most interesting places to visit and up to now we only know we want to visit the Gobi. Any suggestions about a 7 days tour? we wouldn´t care about taking a flight to Gobi from Ulan bataar if it means that we can see more things and not miss anything. THANK YOU

Hi, Mongolia is a nice country but it is very empty outside of UB. This web site will give you a lot of help and it has a basic Mongolian phrasebook. The link is

Thank you. I also have a question related to the visa. They say that going from Beijing to Ulan Bataar I could get the visa for Mongolia once in the border in the train station. So, does it mean that I can get onboard or I have to leave the train, apply for it and maybe miss it? Is because there´s only one train per week and that will harm a lot our plans. Also, is it easy to get the Mongolian visa in Beijing? I know no chinese. Thank you

I'm not sure about that. Contact your country's Mongolian Embassy.

Visa at the border depends on what passport you hold. I saw a young French fellow removed from the train as he had no visa, someone told him that he could get one at the border. We had passed through China imigration, so he could not return to China. The Mongolian imigration people whould not listen to his story, it was well after midnight, and they took him from the train. If you see him standing by the tracks betreen China border point and Mongolian border point, pass him some food.
For visas it is always best to check with the people at the embassy and not go by what some other traveller tells you. |

you are right but because there´s no embassy in my country I wanted to know which was the easiest way to get it. I know I can mail it to the embassy in London but if it gets lost by the time I realize it, probably will be to late to continue with all the procedures for the trip. Have you heard about an invitational letter? I contacted with a Mongolian trekking organitation and they said they could fax me one. Would that help in the border? Probaby best option will be through a travel agency...
