Stavropol is steeped in very important history and was home to the famous Cossacks.
The place itself is very populated I think the population there is about 250.000 roughly the size of an English city.
There are lots of new structures going up and it has a modern bus station.
In the centre there is a very large outdoor market where you can buy almost anything.
There are some nice parks and lots of cafes and nightclubs.
Stavropol is home to lots of students who go there from the South to study.
Be prepared for the high winds which at times feel like they will blow you away.
I have been there 3 times in the last 18 months travelling on the overnight coach from Moscow.
You may find it wise to check advice from your Embassy The british Embassy advises against its subjects travelling to Stavropol and other causican regions due to terrorist activities.
However I never really felt any danger when I was there........its just a matter of being aware and taking all the usual precautions as you would do anywhere !!!

Have a good time.
