I have a hypothetical question. I am a LPR (legal permanent resident) in the US. Let's say, I am daing somebody from Russia and we decided to get married. Let's say we got married in Russia. How do I go about bringing her over to the states?
Has any of you had this kind of experience as a LPR? What is the best way to go about it? How did it go for you?
I am almost sure that this type of thing was discused on this forum somewhere, but I couldn't find.
Thanks for any input. |
Well I had some experience with it about 5/6 years ago. System may have changed a little and I don't remember the numbers and names of all the docs, but basically, you get a bunch of papers that you fill out (showing your financial ability to support her, information on her family, etc) which they than process and set up an appointment for her. She goes to interview, fills out a few more documents and then they grant her an immigrant visa. She has to give up her internal Russian passport (get's a non-resident internal passport in exchange) and then when she flies to the US, she's automaticall processed for a green-card which she gets in about two weeks or so.
All in all, whole process takes about 4-6 months.
The best place to approach for specific details is the INS office (I know it's not called INS, anymore, but whatever it is) in the US Embassy in Moscow.
It definitely, in my opinion, is easier to get married here only because first, the embassy here and INS in the US frown on someone coming over on a tourist visa and then staying to get married. It can and probably will delay getting a green card. There is such a thing as a fiancee-visa, but it's just kind of a hassle to do. All in all, the immigrant visa route may take a little time here, but it's quicker than doing it in the US.
Regards,

| Once you become a US citizen, it should get much easier. |

You are in the wrong place to ask that question. This forum is about travel to Russia.
Go ask your question on rwguide.com or russianwomendiscussion.com or russianmeetingplace.com or global7network.com
If you prefer to do some of your own research then go to Google and search for "K3 visa russian" |

Frick,
Huh!?
What makes you think I'm a moderator. I'm just giving people some good advice that will make their lives much, much easier.
I have visited Russia three times now, and the first two times I was visiting my girlfriend so I happen to have done some research on marriage/visa issues. |

Hmm, I dunno. I thought my advice was pretty decent. What's wrong with this forum for that question ? There seem to be many people here that are actually here in Russia. As it turns out, I did have experience with it, know people who are doing it now, and told the person where to get more specific advice. Question answered. Don't know what the problem is.

Intourist,
You gave good advice and you're right this forum is not inappropriate for that question. Why are Vitalsigns posts deleted btw? |
