Hello,

I'm an American, and am planning a trip in early October which would consist of riding a train from Europe into Moscow, spending 7 or so days there, and then taking the Trans-Siberian to Beijing. I was planning on getting a Russian tourist visa and a Chinese tourist visa, but the complexity of this site's visa application instructions made me sort of anxious -- which cities should I claim that I am staying in, if half of my trip will be spent on or around a train? Will I be allowed to get off of the train and explore Siberia a little bit? As an American, will I be allowed to leave Russia into China? Is there anything else I should watch out for? I'm sure this sort of thing has been addressed many times before, so forgive my ignorance.

Thanks so much.

Hello,
First of all you don’t have to put all the cities of the Trans-Siberian at your application. It’s enough to point out 5 major cities. These are: Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Khabarovsk, Novosibirsk, Vladivostok. As you wrote you’re going to spend 7 days in Moscow first. You’re supposed to get your registration out there. It should be done either by the hotel you will stay in or yourself/friends if you stay at the appartement. Of course you can explore Siberia, but you’re obliged to get a new registration in each city if you are going to spend there more than three working days. If not, you’re free not to register. At last, you’re allowed to go to China after having visited Russia in a case you’ve a chinese visa also. And it’s strongly recommended to have the originals (and copies just in case) of your voucher and confirmation.

Hello,

I am planning a very similar journey next summer; but i didn't quite understood the reply you received: how can you put in those five cities if you don't intend to spend a night there? Can you tell me how you finally obtained your visum? THanks, that would be a great deal of help and good luck with planning your trip!!!!

Bye...

Your visa will not list any cities.
