I'm sure people have asked a similar question before, but I didn't have any luck with the search feature. Anyways, I am a student currently studying abroad in Irkutsk, and I think that I have managed to lose my migration card. What exactly does this mean for me? Can I still legally register myself in other cities? I had planned to travel to Mongolia in two weeks and then return to Russia. Will I still be able to do that? I keep reading everywhere that its possible to leave Russia after losing the card, but that those who attempt to return face "many problems" at the border. What exactly are these problems? Fines? Delays? the guards' confusion? Would I receive a new migration card upon re-entrance?

from what I have read here is that you may or may not have a problem...you might have to pay a fine. And re entering...of course they would give you a new card...and it's not like they keep all the old ones...so you should be fine.

I lost mine in Kazan and when I tried to check in the hotel...the reception lady was freaking out and so was I....I finally found it in one of my light jackets...but like Surf said, I think you would have to pay a fine... Confused
