Hi,
I have read that train prices have increased about 30% recently. I would like to know if this increase only applies to either suburban or regional trains or it does so to international distances also.
Thanks. |

Hi,
I posted the price hike schedule (in Russia) on the trans-sib forum. I know it applies to any "poezd" or intercity train. I don't know whether it applies to the international ones or electrichki.
Regards

Hi,
I've read your post on the Trans-Siberian forum. It's good to know the average hikes depending on the season. Thanks so much for the information provided Usualsuspect1 |

The Moscow-St. Petersburg fares in the site date from January 2003.
If there has been a recent increase, could you please update these fare?
Thanks. |

We would update the train prices, if they were not changing so fast. Please, see this post by UsualSuspect http://www.waytorussia.net/TalkLounge/viewtopic.php?t=306, where he posted the precise price changes planned by Russian railway for 2003.
Also, from November 11th, the Russian Railway decreased the prices by 10%.
However, you should also understand, that the prices offered by train ticket agency, that advertises this service on waytorussia.net site, are higher than the prices you get at the railway station. It's like this, because the Russian railways don't pay any commission, so the agencies need to earn some money on top of the price for their work and to pay back for the ticket terminals installed in their office (which are quite expensive). But then, you save time not queuing, you are able to choose the best option without a hassle, and the ticket can be delivered to you.
If you think that the quote given to you by a railway tickets agent is too high, you can always bargain, it's not a problem... |
