| Hello: My husband and I would like to visit Moscow and St Petersburg this summer. Wondering the best type of trip...cruise, escorted, unescorted? We would like to visit nearby countries too. But, we dont want a quick trip where we only get a glimpse of the sites and the people. Any recommendations? Thanks, Rickie |

If it is your first time to Russia I would suggest an escorted tour with someone who know's the city, and surrounding towns. An escort can help with the language difference, money exchange, etc.,and an escorts knowledge of their hometown is invaluable. Hiring an escort also helps the local economy. A cruise would be great, but you don't get to see very much, or learn about the history. Also I would suggest taking a walking tour in St.Petersburg by yourselves to see the sites. Starting from the Hermitage, there are several points of interest within walking distance which could take a whole day, maybe more. I would advise not to be in a rush while visiting this city. I am more partial to St.Petersburg since I spend most of my time there, and the surrounding area. In St.Pete there are daily bus tours to see the sites which have English speaking guides. What you see on the bus tour that interest you, you can always return to by walking or taking the public transportation.
