Hi,

I am wondering whether it is possible to travel directly by public transport from Harbin (in Manchuria/China) to Vladivostok, without taking the roundabout route via Ulan-Ude (and is this route safe)?

If that is the case, how often does this service run? Is it daily or weekly, if weekly is there a schedule?

Cheers!

You can and it is as safe as any travel. Just keep your wits about you and you'll be OK.

As for the frequency of the train it was about twice a week in 2003 maybe it runs more often now. Khabarovsk is much easier to get to and from there you can pick up a local train to Vlad.
