. . . I would allocate a massive swath of funds (from my multi-billion dollar treasure trove), toward the listed options above:

Well, any more additions? Don't be shy. The list could go on and on.

I don't know if Scientific research means medical research, but that would be the most useful I think. Health care is important to a productive economy.

Actually donating money to any cause would automatically disqualify you as an oligarch. They acquired their wealth by stealing from the people and the country to begin with, then depositing said ill-gotten funds into offshore bank accounts.

Rich Russians have no legacy of charitability. Contemporary oligarchs are worse despots than the former Czarist aristocracy or the corrupt Soviet government. Most of Russia's wealth is being syphoned off into the pockets of a few ruthless schemers who care nothing for their country or its people.

Largely True - their charitable giving is a small small % of their PR budgets. And you can only truely give something if it was yours to start with.

Not me-he has enough and since Warren Buffet just gave his to Gates mine or yours won't make a difference. So I will give my money to some poor down and out Russian-they need it more. Plus the $5.00 I have won't buy much here in the states. Just kidding. So many scams out there I'm not sure where I would put it. I'd like to see what ever I give put to good use though. Something towards the animals or environment.

If I was a Russian oligarch, I'd surely pay all of my money to somebody whom I'd know would be able to sort that mess of a country out.

I am confused.... oligarchs won't do any of that--unless of course, it is something for their personal gain or agenda!

....... I would make sure that I gave that nice Mr Putin enough money and stocks to prevent me becoming "Khodorkovsky-ed" - isn't that how it works?! Rolling Eyes

The whole process that makes someone an oligarch is linked to their attitude to Russian society, their attitude towards the powers that be etc. How can you expect to become one, if you're going to have to fight the whole structure that makes your existance as a tycoon possible?
